On 13 May 2025, EuroCC's national competence center in Sweden (ENCCS) will host a webinar focused on Software Installation on HPC Systems. This session is tailored for newcomers who wish to install software independently on HPC systems. Key topics include compiling source code using make and cmake, employing package managers like conda, spack, and easybuild, and deploying executables with containers, particularly Singularity, on HPC systems.

Installing software on High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems is different from typical personal computer installations due to the presence of multi-user environments, shared resources, and system-wide settings. Rather than conducting a global installation, users generally operate within shared or isolated environments, utilizing specialized tools for software management. Various methods are available for installing software on HPC systems, tailored to their specific configurations.

By the end of this webinar, you will grasp the basics of HPC software installation and understand how it differs from regular systems. You will explore various software installation methods, learn best practices for managing software dependencies, and optimize performance for HPC workloads. Additionally, you’ll gain hands-on experience through practical examples, ensuring you can apply what you’ve learned effectively.
