The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) has selected the sites that will host the first European AI Factories, which are set to be deployed next year across Europe: in Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain, and Sweden.

Five selected hosting sites will deploy brand-new AI-optimized supercomputers in Finland, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and Sweden. Meanwhile, the AI Factory in Spain will result from the upgrade of the EuroHPC system, MareNostrum 5. On the other hand, Greece will establish and operate an AI Factory associated with the DAEDALUS supercomputer, the EuroHPC supercomputer currently being deployed in Greece.

The AI Factories in Spain and Finland will also include an experimental platform, which will serve as a cutting-edge infrastructure for developing and testing innovative AI models and applications and promote collaboration across Europe.

These first seven AI Factories will pool European Union (EU) and national resources. This represents a collaborative effort across 17 European countries, with many consortia involving multiple participating countries.

The EuroHPC AI Factories initiative is designed to create a robust and interconnected network of AI hubs. Acting as one-stop shops, they will offer comprehensive support to AI startups, SMEs, and researchers, including access to AI-optimized high-performance computing (HPC) resources, training, and technical expertise.

The selection of these seven hosting entities, who will operate the new AI Factories on behalf of the EuroHPC JU, will enable cutting-edge research and applications, provide industry access to advanced AI tools, and foster innovation in healthcare, energy, and climate.
